if anyone ever asks me what tumblr is i’m gonna show them this video and just walk away
“when the sun goes down the light reflects off the glass and it looks like the buildings are on fire”
The fact that something doesn’t exist doesn’t make me any less scared of it.
Anti-rape wear. Its almost impervious to knife attacks and tearing/stretching.
The waist and thigh extremities of the garment are cut and tear resistant (the guy in the video can’t cut them with industrial scissors) and they cannot be moved more than a few centimetres when locked into place, the forward area in front of the genitals is also reinforced.
Please, for the love of god, even if you can’t donate, just spread this idea wherever you can, they need $50,000 to be able to manufacture it and they currently have just over $6,000 with 20 days left.
Go to igg.me/at/AR-Wear to donate and/or view their full info.
I mean, I get it, yeah, but I’m sure people are going to use this to further victim blame people who have already been violated.
"You should have had your anti-rape pants, slut!"
Can we talk about the fact that all the models are white (and even the stock photos are all super light POC + white women) and then when they mention “dangerous situations” there’s a shot of an elderly Black homeless guy?
Yeah, ok, we see who you’re marketing towards and who you “think” is the danger.
"Well, just shop your way out of danger! Violent misogyny is just like bad weather! You just need the right clothes!"
Just as much as self defense doesn’t solve society wide problems, neither does consumer options…
Never have I seen an idea so fully encapsulate “the road to hell is paved in good intentions”
in fact, why call this good intentions, the fact that this is true: “Can we talk about the fact that all the models are white (and even the stock photos are all super light POC + white women) and then when they mention “dangerous situations” there’s a shot of an elderly Black homeless guy?”
shows this project isn’t done in good faith and is not a good intention, it’s fucking racist bullshit. So fuck these “anti-rape pants”
why do i continue to be surprised by shit like this
no seriously, how do you make something that’s supposedly “anti-rape” actually contribute to rape culture, and particularly the racist aspect that makes it seem like all rape victims=white cis woman and all rapists=black cis men, PLUS the victim blaming “you didn’t do enough to protect yourself” aspect
how about i start a fucking kickstarter for “anti-rape wear” that turns into a jetpack and jettisons the wearer into space if they think about raping someone
And there it is.
A thousand times yes to all of the commentary… but I still kinda want it… is that bad?
I get what people can say as a result of a product like this, that it can contribute to victim-blaming. And no, the campaigning wasn’t done in the best way possible, it should’ve been more diverse. But when it comes down to it, this can help prevent even just a few rape attempts and if it does even once, I don’t think that what some people say about those who ‘should’ve been wearing anti-rape wear’ is the more important consequence.
